Fisher & Paykel Healthcare was selected the winner in Auckland Transport’s Travelwise Choices Awards in the category Excellence in Travel Choices.

“Fisher & Paykel Healthcare displays a strong commitment to sustainability, including promoting sustainable transport modes to staff as part of a wider initiative to reduce local air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions,” said Cliff Wilton, Auckland Transport Sustainable Mobility Manager.

“This is a real honour,” said Geoff Bold, PhD, senior clinical research scientist at Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, who accepted the award on behalf of the company. “It’s great to have this recognition for our efforts to move people towards sustainable commuting options. We make equipment to help people breathe, so reducing air pollution just makes sense.”

Nic Bishop, Head of Sustainability and Environmental Innovation at Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, said, “Promoting sustainable modes of transport is important to us, because it contributes to the wellbeing of our people, reduces traffic congestion and helps to improve the air quality in our local area.”

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare has a dedicated sustainability team, as well as a Green Team made up of volunteers from across the business. In January and February 2020, the company organised seven key events to promote the Aotearoa Bike Challenge and cycling in general. They rallied 272 participants for the Aotearoa Bike Challenge and encouraged 62 new riders to have a go at cycling.

Product development manager Callum Spence also rode an e-mountain bike all the way from Auckland to Wellington to raise money for CureKids – and inspire his colleagues to cycle the short distance from home to work. These activities followed the company’s November 2019 Sustainable Transport Showcase, which highlighted all forms of sustainable transport.



Fisher & Paykel Healthcare’s newly completed Daniell Building features dedicated carpool parking spaces, bike cages, hybrid vehicle parking spaces and 20 electric vehicle charging stations.

The Auckland Transport Travelwise Choices Awards recognise the commitment of businesses, individuals and community organisations to encourage staff, students, customers and volunteers to make fewer car journeys.
