Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Introduces New Auto Pressure Setting Flow Generator

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Corporation Limited (NZSX:FPH,  ASX:FPH)  announced  today  that  it  has  introduced  at  Worldsleep07   in  Cairns, Australia the first of a range of innovative ‘smart’ flow generators which are intended for use in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

The  SleepStyle™  auto-adjusting  flow  generator  automatically  detects  interruptions  to  normal breathing  and  provides  the  appropriate  positive  airway  pressure  to  meet  the  breath-by-breath needs of the patient. The  new  device  is the  first  to  include  the  company’s  unique  SensAwake™  technology,  which senses when the patient is awake and promptly reduces the delivered pressure to facilitate a return to sleep. The SleepStyle™ 200 Auto Series also includes the ability to automatically collect data during treatment   into  the  SmartStick™,   a  removable   USB  flash  memory   device,   which   may  be conveniently reviewed by the patient’s physician without the need for any special card reading hardware.

“We believe that the new technologies  in the SleepStyle™  200 Auto Series will offer significant benefits  for OSA treatment,  with enhanced  comfort,  acceptance  and patient  management”  said Michael Daniell, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare’s Managing Director and CEO.

The  SleepStyle™  200  Auto  Series  flow  generator  range  will  be  introduced  in  Australia,  New Zealand, Canada and Europe initially, followed by the United States once FDA clearance has been received.   The company expects to introduce several additional devices incorporating its new technology over the next two years.
