SleepStyle CPAP device

This page outlines information about the data generated by the SleepStyle™ device and how a user may access, retrieve and erase this data.


What data is generated by the SleepStyle device?

The SleepStyle device generates the following data:

  • the settings on your device, including set pressure, set humidity, serial number, model name
  • your therapy usage, such as start time, run time, hours of usage, time of use; 
  • your breathing during therapy, such as respiratory flow, total leak, target pressure; and 
  • the local environment during therapy, such as room temperature, room humidity.

The information generated is non-identifiable, as no identifying information such as name are recorded or stored on the device.  However, if the data is transferred from the device and incorporated with other information, such as when made available through the F&P InfoSmart Web™ platform, this data may become identifiable.

 

Format and estimated volume of data generated by the SleepStyle device 

The data is generated in either a public format European Data Format (EDF) file or in an encrypted, proprietary format.

The SleepStyle device generates on average 1 MB of data per day.

 

Does the SleepStyle device generate data continuously and in real-time?      

The SleepStyle device only generates data while the therapy is running.  

The data is generated in real-time but cannot be accessed in real-time – data is only written to the internal memory and the InfoUSB™ stick at the end of a therapy session.


Is data stored on-device or remotely, and for how long?

Data is stored on-device and can be stored in remote storage, if data has been extracted using (i) the InfoUSB stick or (ii) Bluetooth.

Data is stored internally on the device for at least one (1) year, depending on how frequently the device is used.

If plugged in, data will be transferred to the InfoUSB stick at the end of a session.  The data may be retained for at least five (5) years on the InfoUSB stick, depending on how frequently the device is used. Data will be overwritten once the InfoUSB stick is full.

Data can be transferred from the InfoUSB stick to the InfoSmart Web platform, if a patient consents to sharing data with their healthcare professional.  If transferred to the InfoSmart Web platform, data will be stored in the InfoSmart Web platform for seven (7) years (five (5) years in France) after the healthcare provider has ceased use of their InfoSmart Web account, or earlier if we are asked to delete this data by the healthcare provider (for example, if the patient makes a request to their healthcare professional for their data to be deleted). 

Fisher & Paykel Healthcare uses this data for diagnostic purposes to support the provision of medical therapies, to support patients with their use of their device, to support medical device administration and management, and for device, product and service improvements e.g. firmware updates.


How can you access and retrieve the data?    

Data can be accessed and retrieved in a number of different ways depending on the type of data requested:

  • InfoUSB stick: certain data can be retrieved directly off the InfoUSB stick and accessed using a European Data Format reader.  This includes respiratory flow, target pressure and total leak.
  • SleepStyle app and SleepStyle web platform: certain data is made available for patients to view in the SleepStyle app or web platform.  This includes hours of usage, time of use, serial number, total leak . This data is available to view so long as a patient maintains their SleepStyle app or web platform account.
  • InfoSmart Web platform: certain data is made available to healthcare professionals or their organisations to view through the InfoSmart Web platform.   This includes hours of usage, time of use, serial number, total leak, respiratory flow and target pressure.
  • Data Hub website form: users can request access to data directly from Fisher & Paykel Healthcare via the Data Hub website form.


How can you erase the data? 

Therapy data can be erased from the SleepStyle device using the “clear patient data” functionality, or otherwise using the factory reset functionality.  Data can also be erased directly off the InfoUSB stick.  

Data can be erased from the SleepStyle app or SleepStyle web platform by contacting Fisher & Paykel Healthcare as set out in the SleepStyle app or web platform terms and conditions. 

Healthcare professionals can request that data is erased from the InfoSmart Web platform by contacting Fisher & Paykel Healthcare as set out in the InfoSmart Web platform terms and conditions.
