#1 PROBLEM FOR FULL FACE MASK REVEALED

Auckland, New Zealand, April 2019 - Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Corporation Limited

FISHER & PAYKEL HEALTHCARE RESEARCH REVEALS #1 PROBLEM FOR FULL FACE CPAP MASK USERS

  • 1 in 3 CPAP patients experiences problems with full face mask leaks

  • On average, patients experience 2 additional mask-related issues as a result

The Fisher & Paykel Healthcare examined 620 patient reviews across 7 leading CPAP supplier web stores in the USA, to uncover the primary issue experienced by full face mask usersi.

Commissioned in March 2019, the research revealed that 1 in 3 CPAP patients experienced mask leaks during the night, resulting in disturbed sleep. We found that those who had leaks on average experienced two other problems as a result.

There were a number of reviews that indicated that leaks resulted in a ‘cascade’ of other problems. For example, patient reviews highlighted that the presence of leaks may result in patients instinctively over-tightening their straps, resulting in facial discomfort such as pain points on the bridge of the nose and under the nose, as well as facial marking.

The issue of mask leaks is also backed up by recent clinical research which shows 39% of patients switched their mask due to leak-related problems.ii

The F&P Simplus™, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare’s most successful CPAP full face mask, is designed to minimize mask leaks so patients can rely on undisturbed sleep with proven results. The mask features Dynamic Support Technology™ - including the Stability Bar and the RollFit™ cushion – which provide a greater zone of support, allowing the cushion to adjust and seal dynamically on a range of different nose and face shapes.
